Swedish black metal outfit Marduk have had a controversial past when it comes to their alleged ties to white supremacy. The band have had shows cancelled by the authorities for allegedly holding those beliefs, along with alleged ties Nazi imagery. In 2018, controversy erupted over the band’s planned show in Poland being cancelled amid venue sabotage.
That damage to the venue took place while reports of members of the band purchasing Nazi propaganda swirled. The band themselves denied those claims.
Controversy over the band’s Satanic beliefs also saw them banned from Guatemala back in 2018. Now comes word that the group have parted ways with their bassist Joel Lindholm in the wake of the musician apparently engaging in a Nazi salute during the band’s May 13th set at the Incineration Festival in London, England.
The band said in a statement issued today, May 18th:
“Following a variety of intolerable stage antics by a very drunk Joel at Incineration Fest last week, he has vacated his position in the band. Our old friend and bass player Devo has agreed to step in on a temporary basis, so this is unlikely to affect any of upcoming shows.”
Footage of the incident in question can be seen below, with Lindholm appearing on the right. Lindholm replaced Magnus “Devo” Andersson in Marduk back in 2020.
