July 14th will usher in a newly recorded version of Sepultura‘s 1986 debut album “Morbid Visions“. That record captured the legendary Brazilian band’s early blackened death metal sound. The current lineup of Sepultura themselves weren’t involved with this new recording however.
Instead, the Cavalera brothers, Max and Iggor, who co-founded the group together back in 1984, have chosen to re-record that effort and issue it under their Cavalera Conspiracy banner. They previously had planned to put it out under the banner of ‘Cavalera‘.
The brothers co-produced these latest sessions, with John Aquilino engineering and Arthur Rizk (Soulfly, Code Orange) mixing. This new version of the album will feature a previously unreleased track written during the “Morbid Visions” era titled “Burn The Dead“. The updated record has just been announced for a July 14th release on Nuclear Blast. A similarly re-recorded version of Sepultura‘s “Bestial Devastation” will arrive on the same day via Nuclear Blast. Its bonus track carries the title of “Sexta Feira 13“.
Max previously commented of these releases:
“As we get harder year after year, sometimes you’ve got to go back to where it all started! We re-recorded Bestial Devastation and Morbid Visions with the amazing sound of NOW, but with its raw and timeless spirit. The artwork reflects the times we’re living in right now… Apocalyptic as hell! We also have two new tracks with riffs from those days, remembered by heart.”
For now, the re-recorded title track to “Morbid Visions” has just gone up online, serving as the first listen of these updated takes. The Cavalera brothers will be out touring on these two records this fall.
Dubbed the ‘Morbid Devastation Tour‘, that trek will find Max‘s son Igor Amadeus Cavalera (Healing Magic, Go Ahead And Die) on bass, while Travis Stone (Pig Destroyer, Desolus) will be on lead guitars.
Exhumed and Incite will be opening that trek, with tickets set to launch next Friday, April 21st at 10:00am local time.
