The bitter dispute between grunge legends Soundgarden and Vicky Cornell, the widow of the band’s late frontman/guitarist Chris Cornell, has been resolved. You may recall that the matter hit the courts, as the band sought to gain ownership of a number of recordings they claim were written with the intention for a new Soundgarden album at the time.
Vicky, who helps head up the estate of her late husband, retained possession of those recordings and insisted that the band would be granted access to the tracks if certain stipulations were met, including a preferred producer and more. Amid that, there was also various ugliness and accusations thrown about, and a war for the band’s social media accounts.
In a statement shared publicly today, April 17th, Soundgarden offered:
“Soundgarden and Vicky Cornell, on behalf of the Estate of Chris Cornell, are happy to announce they have reached an amicable out of court resolution. The reconciliation marks a new partnership between the two parties, which will allow Soundgarden fans around the world to hear the final songs that the band and Chris were working on.
The two parties are united and coming together to propel, honor and build upon Soundgarden‘s incredible legacy as well as Chris‘s indelible mark on music history – as one of the greatest songwriters and vocalists of all time.”
Past legal filings in the matter revealed the existence of a number of new songs the band and Cornell worked on together, including:
“Road Less Traveled” (Chris Cornell/Matt Cameron)
“Orphans” (Chris Cornell/Matt Cameron)
“At Ophians Door” (Chris Cornell/Matt Cameron)
“Cancer” (Chris Cornell)
“Ahead Of The Dog” (Chris Cornell/Kim Thayil)
“Merrmas” (Chris Cornell/Ben Shepherd)
“Stone Age Mind” (Chris Cornell)
