Ahead of their live return later this year, vetern nü-metal band Taproot are hoping to rally their fans to rally their fans into helping earn the group their first gold record in the United States. According to the outfit, their 2002 sophomore album “Welcome” is currently roughly 9 million streams short of obtaining that milestone.
In a post shared on their social media yesterday, February 16th, the group offered:
“Speaking of WELCOME, so as many of you may or may not know, for the last decade or so, WELCOME has been sitting just under 500,000 sales, or Certified GOLD status. Well recently we were thrilled when we realized it had passed 500k sales, according to Soundscan, so we set out to try and get the record certified GOLD.
Well, we found out the RIAA does not certify according to Soundscan, so we had to have it verified internally by the numbers from Warner Bros/Atlantic, who were kind enough to join us on our mission and help us look into it. Well according to WB’s #s, we are still 9 million streams SHORT of Gold Status.
So we wanted to ask you, our loyal and amazing fans, to help us get there!! I know it sounds like a lot, but really, there’s over 100k of you here on Facebook (and we have over 380k monthly listeners on Spotify alone.) If all of you told 10 friends, and they told 10 friends, and you all streamed ‘WELCOME‘ just ONCE, we would be there.
So we kindly ask that you spend some time listening to WELCOME on the streaming platform of your choice. Stream it once. Stream it 100 times. Stream it in your sleep. Whatever your comfort level. Also, share this post, talk to your friends who love TAPROOT. Anything you can do to help.
To sweeten the pot, when we are finally certified GOLD, we will go back to this thread, and pick 2 fans who commented or shared, and make them their own CUSTOM ‘Welcome‘ Gold Records, just like the ones the band will get. As it currently stands, Taproot are preparing to release an abbreviated b-sides compilation titled “Best Of Besides on April 30th on CD, with the vinyl pressing following on September 30th. You can find more on that set here. Outside of that, the band will be back onstage for their first show since 2017 at this year’s ‘Blue Ridge Rock Festival‘. That event will take place from September 07th-10th in Alton, VA.
A gold album signifies 500,000 units. Outside of traditional physical/digital sales, the certifications factor in digital streams/downloads with 10 permanent track downloads counting as 1 unit and 1500 on-demand audio/video streams from a particular album also counting as as a unit.
