Harley Flanagan has newly been awarded complete control of the Cro-Mags trademark. You may recall that after years of confusion and a startlingly violent altercation, the band’s trademark rights were officially splintered per this legal settlement. That agreement, which was struck back in 2019, stated that Flanagan would retain the rights to the Cro-Mags trademarks going forward, while vocalist John Joseph and drummer Mackie Jayson would legally be able to continue on as Cro-Mags JM.
For awhile that arrangement held—at least up until this past spring, when Flanagan once again filed suit against John Joseph. Flanagan claimed at the time that in billing their April 23rd, 2022 live benefit concert at Tompkins Square Park in NYC as the ‘Cro-Mags Jam‘, Joseph and Mackie had violated their previous settlement.
That matter was legally resolved late last month, with Joseph agreeing to vacate his claims to the Cro-Mags and Cro-Mags JM trademarks per a permanent injunction. Speaking earlier today (October 06th) on social media of the development, Flanagan commented:
“As you may have guessed Cro-Mags “JM” is no more…
“Someone” would like you to think this was a decision they made, but in fact it was the result of them breaching the terms of the settlement which permitted them to use that name.
Now….
There can be only one. The charade and confusion is over, it is done.
Thank you to all of those who helped make it so.”
