After legally resolving years of bitter dispute and violence surrounding the Cro-Mags trademark in a 2019 settlement, the two parties involved with the name are once again headed to court. Per the aforementioned 2019 settlement, vocalist/bassist Harley Flanagan retained the rights to tour and release music, etc. under the Cro-Mags moniker.
The rival faction of the Cro-Mags, which is spearheaded by vocalist John Joseph McGowan and drummer Mackie Jayson, were thus legally obligated to identify themselves as Cro-Mags ‘JM’ for all future touring going forward.
According to the New York Post, a new suit filed on behalf of Flanagan‘s camp accuses Joseph and Mackie‘s version of the band of trademark infringement and violating their past settlement agreement. The suit was filed due to the Joseph and Mackie-led version of the band being billed as ‘Cro-Mags Jam‘ as part of an April 23rd, 2022 benefit concert at Tompkins Square Park in New York City, NY.
Per the New York Post, a cease-and-desist letter was said to have been served to Joseph‘s camp prior to the performance.
