Ozzy Osbourne’s “Patient Number 9” Opens In Top 3 Of The Billboard 200, Lands #1 Spot On Top Album Sales

73-year-old heavy metal pioneer Ozzy Osbourne has much to celebrate with the first week performance of his thirteenth studio album, “Patient Number 9“. That guest-filled effort just hit the charts and landed him some new career bests.

In a recently published interview with Kerrang!, Osbourne revealed that having a number one album around the world was a career milestone he still hoped to achieve. Speaking on that, he offered:

“I’d like to have an Ozzy Osbourne album at number one around the world. But the very fact that I’m making records at the age of 73 [is something]. There ain’t that many of us that can still do that. And, in the beginning, I always make the album for me. A record could sell as many as [Michael Jackson‘s] ‘Thriller‘ and I still wouldn’t like it if I hadn’t [enjoyed the process and the people I had made it with!]

I’m not saying it just because ‘Patient Number 9‘ is about to come out, but I’ve grown really fond of this one. That’s new to me. Normally, long after the album is out, I’m still finding things that I should have done or shouldn’t have done: too much of this, too little of that. Then I let go of it about a month after release. But this is as good [a pre-release vibe as I’ve had].”

Buoyed by guest appearances from members of Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam as well as Tony Iommi, Eric Clapton and more, “Patient Number 9” arrived on September 09th.

According to, the record’s first week sales in the United States amounted to 52,500 copies, 44,500 of which were physical sales (16,500 vinyl, 27,500 CD and 500 on cassette.) Digital downloads comprised 8,000 of that sum. While the album managed to open at #3 on the Billboard 200 (behind Bad Bunny and NAV), it did take home the top spot on several other charts.

Among the #1 slots the record currently holds are are Billboard‘s Top Album Sales, Top Rock & Alternative Albums, Top Rock Albums, Top Hard Rock Albums, Top Current Album Sales, Tastemaker Albums and Vinyl Albums charts.

Patient Number 9” matches the Billboard 200 opening position of its predecessor, 2020’s “Ordinary Man“. That record shifted 77,000 album equivalent units in its first week, 65,000 of which were attributed to pure sales.
