Korn’s Jonathan Davis Reveals Which Band From The Nü-Metal Revival He Currently Enjoys

As the vocalist for nü-metal pioneers Korn, Jonathan Davis has had a complicated relationship with the genre his band unwittingly help spawn. In the past he’s taken issue of how it was co-opted by the people whom he despised at the time, at one point telling NME back in 2019, “that scene was full of misogynistic, opportunistic dickhead jocks. The sort of people who’d be bullying me at school if they weren’t supporting my band at shows.”

However, in a separate conversation with Kerrang! conducted in 2019, he also admitted to having some pride in what he and his bandmates helped spawn, stating:

“If we invented nü-metal then fuck yeah, cool. It’s pretty cool to say we helped invent some kind of movement, that’s pretty insane. The last big movement was us. Other bands helped along the way, but we spearheaded that whole thing.”

Several key players from the nü-metal scene have been enjoying considerable success in recent years. While a new generation of bands have embraced the style to lead a veritable revival. Davis was asked recently by a fan what he thought about this resurgence.

As part of a fan Q&A organized by Metal Hammer, the following question was put to Davis: ‘Have you heard any of the new nu metal bands, like Tetrarch and Tallah? Did you even know that nu metal was ‘a thing’ again?’

His reply read as follows:

“I’m glad it’s back, but the whole nu metal thing, it’s just whatever! Ha ha! I like this one band called Wargasm. They’re pretty cool. They’re heavy, but they’re new and different.”
