Mental Cruelty Part Ways With Vocalist Lucca Schmerler Following Allegations

German blackened deathcore outfit Mental Cruelty have announced that they have parted ways with their vocalist Lucca Schmerler. The move comes about in the wake of several sexual assault allegations having been shared online against him. His firing has occurred just weeks after the band announced their signing with Century Media Records and an April 12th release date for a re-mixed and remastered version of their 2018 album “Purgatorium“.

In a statement issued earlier today (March 28th,) the band offered:

“This has been the hardest week for us with daily calls talking about the allegations against Lucca. None of us ever thought about being in a situation like this, therefore it took us a few days to evaluate. As a result, Lucca is no longer a part of Mental Cruelty. Please be sure, we as the band (Danny, Nawl, Viktor and Marvin) completely distance ourselves from all forms of sexual violence and/or abuse.

You can read Lucca‘s statement on his personal Instagram account. Please understand that we will not speak on his behalf!”

While Schmerler has since pulled his Instagram account, he did make the following statement prior:

“Due to threats of violence against my friends, family and myself, I will withdraw from public life until further notice. Investigations against the people involved were initiated a few weeks ago and I distance myself from all allegations made against me.”
