Slipknot Premiere New Single “The Chapeltown Rag”

The time for new Slipknot is officially upon us as the band have just debuted the first single from their seventh studio album. The group recorded that effort with acclaimed producer Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens Of The Stone Age) and thus far details for it its eventual release are being kept under wraps.

This new track is titled “The Chapeltown Rag” and can be heard below. Speaking with knotfest.com recently, the band’s frontman Corey Taylor revealed his lyrical inspiration for the song first took hold when streaming a documentary on serial killer Jack The Ripper.

However, the scope soon expanded into the world of social media and algorithms as one of the latter seemingly attempted to steer him down an endless dark path of serial killer documentaries. He said of that:

“At that moment, everything was just kind of steering towards violence, or a history of violence. And it was just such a weird echo of social media. And the fact that social media tries to steer you towards violence or steer you towards the most toxic thing – the most toxic moment. So I looked at it from that standpoint.”

As for the song and how it sounds, Taylor told the aforementioned site:

“It’s classic Slipknot and it’s frenetic. But lyrically, it’s coming from a point of talking about the various manipulations that can happen when social media meets media itself. And the different ways that these manipulations can try to pull us in different directions, in the fact that we’re all becoming addicts to it, which is very, very dangerous.”

The band will be giving the track its first live playthrough at this weekend’s ‘Knotfest Los Angeles‘ festival, which will take place at the Banc Of California Stadium in Los Angeles, CA this Friday, November 05th. Their headlining set and other select performances from other artists booked for the festival will be livestreamed across the internet here.
