Deftones’ Stephen Carpenter Explains His Flat Earth, Anti-Vax, Simulation Theory, Etc. Beliefs

Deftones, etc. guitarist Stephen Carpenter appeared as the latest guest on the ‘Tin Foil Hat With Sam Tripoli‘ podcast to discuss his passion for various conspiracies. Among the conversation, Carpenter confirmed his belief in the earth being flat, not believing in vaccines or viruses, nuclear weapons not actually existing, manifesting reality, simulation theory and more.

For some background, Carpenter revealed in the chat that he has been subscribing to conspiracy theories and had an interest in them dating back to the early 90s.

When asked outright if he was a ‘flat earth dude’, Carpenter responded, [transcribed by theprp.com] “Absolutely… If you think you live on a spinning, flying space ball, you’re in a cult.” He also went on to dispute the concept of space and space travel as it is commonly presented, stating “the only thing that was ever launched into space was humanity’s imagination.” He later went on to say of his various views:

“Here are three things you need to keep your clarity through all of this mental insanity. This will keep you straight through all of it, if you just remember these three things. And those three things are: one, projection. Two, incrementalism and three, Boogeyman everything. The Boogeyman is constantly being projected, and he’s incrementally getting worse, all the time. Boogeyman, Boogeyman, Boogeyman.”

He continued:

“I literally filter through the fact that I know I’m not on a flying spinning space ball and the Boogeyman is always trying to get me.”

When pressed later about his beliefs on flat earth and how he understands it, he elaborated:

“The simplest terms for my perspective with flat Earth is simply, I know we’re not on a spinning, flying space ball. Now, what it actually is and all that and, and, and to what depths it goes to, that’s all still to be discovered and people are are working on those things.

And it’s just exciting, you know, seeing it from… it’s a much clearer perspective once you acknowledge it, because it’s something that’s blatant and it’s in everything. And you just have to, you know, understand what you’re looking at. And then I mean you don’t feel it. I mean if you’re walking on a treadmill, a half a mile per hour, and I unplugged it, you would feel it.”

He also further elaborated on flat Earth and how he came to believe in it:

“When you tell people that the Earth is flat I want to ask and answer all the questions that you want to ask and answer as well. But I want you to first acknowledge that you don’t live on the spinning space ball.

Because once you know you can acknowledge that, then you get to that place where, like ‘okay, now we’re legitimately asking the same question.’ People are still discovering lots of things  in regards to that.

You’re gonna always fall for everything if you don’t know that you’re actually not in reality. And that’s the entire point of even mentioning that Earth is flat. Like, when you’re saying, you know, when you’re having conversations with people like, I don’t mind having conversations with people—especially even if they’re completely different [opinions] than mine, and especially when they are, because that’s usually where I’ll cut right through all of their like, ‘Alright, I’m gonna take you to the maximum when it comes to crazy.’

I’m gonna let you laugh because I want you to know, for at least three months straight when a friend of mine brought it up to me and another mutual friend of ours, I laughed at him every single time he brought it up. I told him he was insane, I was like ‘Damn bro You ain’t seen the videos? You ain’t seen the pictures?’ You know like everybody. I went through the whole, you know, laughter and ‘you’re insane’.

Because really, one of my favorite subjects in existence was space. Like I fucking love space. Infinity? like come on that’s all, that’s everything, like damn, everything is possible in infinity. Right? So I really loved space, so when he came at me for you know nearly like three months I laughed at him all the time.

And I told him he was crazy… That’s when I hadn’t learned it yet, but I was on the path to learning that truth passes through three stages. Stage one is ridicule. Stage two is violent opposition and stage three is acceptance.

Most of us go to stage three unless it’s something that cuts against our belief, in which case then we either go to stage one and laugh it off, or we go to stage two and get pissed. I mean that’s how it works for everything.

And I didn’t know this yet, like I said I laughed at him repeatedly for months and then he just got tired of getting laughed at, I mean who wouldn’t get tired of that? And then he never stopped exploring the subject and nearly a year, I say almost the year, about nine months later he sent me a link to a video called ‘Flat Earth: The Ultimate Litmus Test‘ by a guy named Marty Leeds. Awesome video.

When I first saw that. You know, when I first saw that, you know, the message, the link in the message; unlike all previous conversations that we had about the subject, he actually never presented me or us with any information, you know actual video proof, or anything like that.

He was just telling us stuff about it and you know the conversation would just get heated right away. But, so, so when I first saw this, my initial response was laughter, because that’s what I’ve always done. And then I was like you know what?

He’s actually showing me something now and I’m still laughing about something that I don’t know about. I at least owe it to just watch this, you know, see what he’s talking about because he’s still telling me a year later that Earth is flat, and I’m still going What are you talking about?

So I was just coming home from a tour we did in Texas—we had talked for years about doing a tour of Texas—like ‘man it’s so big and so awesome we could tour Texas people love music in Texas.’ So we had finally done that, and we were coming home that day when I got that message.

So I got home, um, you know I’m doing my come home from tour unpacking chores, doing laundry and finally enjoying… So I’m in and out of this video, and I finish up doing all my laundry and everything about the time I finished the video. And I said to myself I think I’m gonna watch it again, you know, it was really compelling. I want to watch it without interruption, so I did.

And then after I watched the video, I sent my homie a text and was I like ‘alright bro I stand corrected You were right, I was wrong, this motherfucker’s flat.’ And then I just go down the path of watching you know, endless videos from there.

This was like four years ago, and I mean I’ve spent hours and hours of just watching videos and watching channels come and go and you know the the subject become, you know, like they always got to put up a little warning page, you know a little box under every video.

It’s like when you’re watching something about reality The Matrix is trying to remind you this isn’t real, look away. But like I said you know I was like, ‘Look, you know, you’re right I was wrong. I’m sorry I laughed at you all those times.’ That very first realization.

I have to say that, you know, it was probably a couple weeks where I was like man I really wish I had this volume of information to fill the hole where that other volume of information used to be.

When you first learn about flat Earth, at least when I did that, I learned about all that no dinosaur shit, no nuke stuff and everything. I mean literally you just start going down the path. Oh my god, there’s so much fake shit. And it just keeps happening you know?”

He later continued:

“[Once] I realized that there was no such place as space and we’re in this, you know, created environment, if you will. It changed everything. I immediately lost all the space fear. Like I have no fears of us ever being struck by some rogue asteroid, meteor, comet, rogue planet, no solar flares, none of this space fucking devil’s gonna get ya.”

When presented with the idea that reality we know it is part of a simulation, Carpenter responded:

“If you want to call it simulation. That’s fine, it’s simulation is still implying that you’re not on the flying, spinning space ball, this is some other shit right? And I’m just saying. I’m just saying that you know here in The Matrix where we are, there’s a reality and there is The Matrix right?

Flat Earth is outside of The Matrix, when you’re in The Matrix, you have all kinds of versions of what you think it is, but it’s not. It’s a flat motionless plane of existence. And I don’t know, you can debate it forever, but it will never change the fact that that’s what it is. You know what I mean? And that’s why I was saying…

Initially I said, you know, it’s really hard, um, after you know that, because you are outside of The Matrix. In The Matrix you know, the majority is in The Matrix still, so it’s hard to actually talk to people who want to have serious conversations about subjects that they think they know about but they don’t, because they’re not in actual reality.”

Speaking on the censorship implemented on the internet, in particular when it comes to conspiracy theories, he replied:

“In this reality, truth is what is being suppressed. Or, you know, I wouldn’t even say truth. You know just people that are presenting alternative perspectives that are better based in what they believe to be evidence proving their point. And that’s the stuff that’s getting smashed. Nobody wants….

There’s a force that does not want you to educate yourself, there’s a force that does not want you to feel confident about yourself. There’s a force that does not want all the people uniting together. I mean it’s hard to, it’s really hard to comprehend and 99% can’t figure out that that’s that what kind of value they got versus one 1%, that’s insane.”

When the topic of vaccines and the recently announced COVID-19 vaccine candidates came up, Carpenter said:

“[There’s] never been one single vaccine that’s ever worked ever. All poisons, you can never get it out of your body, [your] body has no means to expel it, it’s stuck in you forever and you just suffer with whatever it becomes.”

When the subject of a successful Polio vaccine was brought up, he replied:

“We never eradicated it [Polio]. It was… we’ve never actually learned… I’m grateful for COVID, for teaching me the actual germ theory, and that is the virus is something the body creates. You are not capable of catching a virus from somebody. You develop viruses because you have some type of poison or toxin within you. And that’s your poisoned and toxined cells secreting the virus to clean them from the body.

I mean, we just got… we’ve been blown up in the head from the very jump. Not just us but our parents, our parents, their parents and their grandparents. It’s just been this, the chain of mental destruction has been eternal. And simply put divide conquer, because we have, because we’re sorted out separately in the brain, you know, good luck everybody.”

Regarding the derision and criticism he has faced from other people regarding his views on vaccines, he said: “If you don’t agree with vaccines, [people think] you’re insane. There’s something wrong with you.”

When asked about the subject of masks, he responded:

“All propaganda all the time. No matter how many times you want to present to people that it says right on the box that it says that this protects you against nothing, you know it won’t matter. I mean they could read it themselves and who wants to admit they’ve been played? I mean who wants to own that they were the sucker. That’s hard I guess for most people, because that’s what we’re going through.

Most people know that it’s bullshit. The germaphobes we’re not… we can’t do anything but try to help them out because they genuinely believe that there’s a deadly virus going around and they would have believed it already. They already thought life was deadly and dangerous. So this is no help to them. But everyone else part-time wears the mask, they already know it’s worthless. You know they all got their little favorite little logo matching their outfits. It’s like clown show. Please stop, you’re embarrassing yourself.

And that’s no disrespect to those who’ve fallen ill and even those who died from whatever they may have died from. Obviously none of that is disregarded, but I do not connect that to what this is, you know? What this is some, this is just some mental trickery.

And it’s unfortunate that everybody just gave in. It was a two week event when it started, and then it just now it’s forever… Thank you to all your mask wearers for making this permanent, good job.”

On COVID-19:

“Wouldn’t the homeless population be all you need to know about the virus? I mean, if there was this incredibly deadly, deadly virus going around for this whole entire year, We would have lost everybody on the street by now. I’m sure of it. But in fact we didn’t lose them, their numbers got stronger.”

He also opened up on his beliefs regarding general health practices too:

“I have hung out with friends who have had colds throughout my life with confidence knowing I never would ever get sick. Because I’ve always believed in the mind over matter you know, ‘I’m not getting sick’ so I never I’ve never felt that, you know. Hell I’ve shared joints with people when we were all sick. Some people even while they had a fucking cold sore, yeah I never got a cold sore after we did that. But everyone’s done it… These are all, you know, we’ll call them virus for the sake of, you know, just the sake of the argument, right? But these are all toxic cells that are released from within you.

Wherever the toxins build up, that’s where it’s gonna have to release, you know? Whatever elements it takes for you to release the cold sore element, that’s what happened. Because I’ve had cold sores throughout my life. And they’ve always come when I’m the most stressed, especially about having a cold sore, so like if you think about the cold sore, oh shit it’s coming.”

There’s a whole lot more to chew on from Carpenter in the chat, you can watch it below.
