Devin Townsend has released third album of guitar-based ambient improvisation, which you can hear below. Clocking in at just over an hour and 23 minutes long, Townsend commented “New Guitar Improv for you… I feel like Im figuring this vibe out now. This works good for background working sounds.” He also stated that he has a September 01st revealed planned for a ‘metal thing’ he has been working on:
Yeah, I believe Sept 1st is when this metal thing Ive been working on for the past few months will be able to be seen and heard =) Its wicked actually…

Upon being pressed by fans on social media, Townsend went on to reveal that it will be a special virtual concert focusing on the more metal side of his catalog. Prior to COVID-19, Townsend had intended to be touring this summer with a revised lineup that would focus on his heavier output from Strapping Young Lad and the Devin Townsend Project.
Yep, playing 'live' via chain letter (starting with Sam) then we filmed ourselves with 8 cameras at the same heights and distances and we're assembling it on an epic virtual stage, playing the 'By Request set' Half SYL, Half DTP

Townsend‘s planned lineup for his metal touring adventures included guitarist Wes Hauch (ex-The Faceless/Black Crown Initiate), bassist Liam Wilson (Azusa, ex-The Dillinger Escape Plan) and drummer Samus Paulicelli (Decrepit Birth). It is currently unclear if all will be involved in the forthcoming streaming concert.
