Last night, October 17th, saw Metallica play the sixth of their residency shows at The Sphere in Las Vegas, NV. Performing in two-date blocks, the thrash metal titans have locked into a routine or two alternating setlist templates, with a few slight variations.
Despite being this deep into the run however, the group aren’t resting on their laurels. Last night’s set found the Rock & Roll Hall Of Famers introduce the “…And Justice For All” track “Harvester Of Sorrow” into their residency run, which they’ve dubbed ‘Life Burns Faster‘.
The Sphere of course presents artists with an opportunity to utilize giant immersive projection screens that enfold the the band and audience. While Metallica have knocked some of their accompanying visual presentations out of the park — their treatment for “Call Of Ktulu“ — seems to be a fan favorite, some of the other visuals served up haven’t exactly won fans over.
The visual treatment for last night’s inclusion of “Harvester Of Sorrow” appears to be landing in the latter category, with its suggestive imagery involving a goose and a man sharpening a blade apparently not connecting with some. Fan-filmed footage of that debut is available below, along with the setlist for last night’s show:
“Blackened“
“Fuel“
“Leper Messiah“
“Devil’s Dance“
“72 Seasons“
“Harvester Of Sorrow“
“The Day That Never Comes“
“The Outlaw Torn“
“Kirk and Rob Doodle“
“The Unforgiven“
“Orion“
“Hardwired“
“Whiskey In The Jar“
“For Whom The Bell Tolls“
“One“
“Enter Sandman“
While the recent apolitical commentary made onstage by Metallica‘ vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield last weekend continues to generate heated discussion, the band remained silent on the controversy amid this week’s shows, instead focusing on the music, and in this case, the visuals.
