TMZ report that organizers of ‘Ozzfest‘ have filed suit against the ‘OZY Fest‘, which took place in Central Park in New York City, NY this past July and featured Jason Derulo, Samantha Bee and more. The suit follows an apparent cease and desist letter that was sent to the festival by the ‘Ozzfest‘ camp that was previously brushed off. It was apparently claimed that the ‘OZY Fest‘ was more of a mixed media festival and shouldn’t have drawn any confusion to the similarly named metal/rock festival.
Given that musical performances were also a prominent portion of ‘OZY Fest‘, in addition to panels with guest speakrs and such, the ‘Ozzfest‘ organizers did not agree. The suit seeks to prevent any future usage of the ‘OZY Fest‘ name as well as demanding profits from the past July show.
The once annual touring ‘Ozzfest‘ festival has had admittedly had a lessened profile since its late 90s/early 2000s heyday, but returned recently as a destination festival, pairing with Slipknot‘s annual ‘Knotfest‘ event. The next edition of that pairing, dubbed ‘Ozzfest Meets Knotfest‘, will take place November 04th-05th at the Glen Helen Amphitheater & Festival Grounds.
