Of Mice & Men recently had to cancel their European/UK tour so that frontman Austin Carlile could head home and address some medical issues. Since arriving back in the states, Carlile has been undergoing a battery of tests in the hospital and today (October 21st) is undergoing the first of several planned surgeries to get him back on his feet.
Carlile suffers from the genetic disorder Marfan Syndrome, complications from which have caused countless medical issues for him in the past, including a dural sac tear in his spine, pieces of his ribs requiring removal and even heart surgery that left him clinically dead for a few hours. He said of this latest round of surgeries:
“First of a few surgeries today!!! Will be doing something called blood patching, to fix the three major tears currently in my spine… Base of neck/back of head, mid back between my 11 & 12 vertebrae due to a bludgeoned disc, and lower back just above tailbone! Here we go!”
