Deftones’ Chino Moreno Collaborates With Bassnectar On “Hexes”, Audio Available

As part of his recent score for the upcoming “Resident Evil: Retribution 3D” movie (opening this Friday, September 14th), so-called metalstep artist Bassnectar teamed up with Deftones/Crosses/Palms, etc. frontman Chino Moreno. The pair collaborated on a song titled “Hexes“, which will run during the end credits of the film.

Bassnectar sharing the following on the collab, which you can hear below:

“For those of you out there who enjoy the dark side of music, here’s my “Hexes” track for the new “Resident Evil: Retribution” movie, made with one of my favorite singers alive, Chino Moreno [big ups Chino]!!

I was thrilled to be a part of scoring this, and wanted to make a beat that dropped like a wall of bricks to knock people back in their seats at the movie’s sudden and dramatic end. Chino put together the lyrics in a poem that felt like a slow motion dream, and somehow the two sensations works in tandem: falling backwards in a dream while getting blown back by a wobbling wall of sound.”

The song is also now available for purchase through iTunes. Interestingly the track isn’t Moreno‘s only end-credits collaboration as of late. He also teamed up with Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park and Joe Trepanese for “Razors Out“, which played during the credits of “The Raid: Redemption“.

This is ok at best. I’m a big Deftones fan, but I don’t know. I’d just rather listen to Crosses. I don’t dislike Bassnectar either (If you haven’t heard his remix of Deftones track ‘Prince’, I highly recommend it. Pretty sure it’s a free dl on his soundcloud site.), just not digging this track.

    • can’t stand this. the wobbly bass effects are as annoying as Gilbert Godfrey on USA Up All Night. If i wanna listen to dark drum and bass i’ll listen to exactly that. Dark drum and bass, such as Dieselboy, Evol Intent, Mayhem, Black Sun Empire, etc etc Dubstep is just annoying IMO.

That’s how I felt. Then I saw Bassnectar perform the night after Deftones performed at KahBang Music & Art Festival this summer and I changed my mind. You won’t really catch me listening to Bassnectar while driving down the road, but the live shit is where it’s at, good times.

    • Really? Is that what it took for theprp to like dubstep? Chino Moreno? Whether or not Chino is a boss, the background music is intolerable. Sorry, I tried it out.
