2012 “Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival” Lineup Rumors Heat Up

With the official “Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival” announcement nearing rumors still persist about who will be playing this years incarnation of the trek. If the rumors Theprp has heard turn out to be true Slipknot, Slayer, Motorhead, Anthrax, The Devil Wears Prada, As I Lay Dying and Whitechapel are among the artists participating in this years trek.

As always a grain (or more) of salt should be taken as some of these are a bit shaky. The lineup is not set to be officially announced until January 25th.

Even though the members of As I Lay Dying are Christian, they don’t write Christian music. They write songs that relate to any one. And as far as Slayer goes their lead singer is Catholic lol. The rest of the band is Atheist. So where is this chirstian/satanist collabo?

tdwp is christian. and whitechapel is satanist, how is slayer’s singer catholic if 98% of the lyrics are death related?

Note: Note that the vast majority of Slayer’s lyrics are written by King and Hanneman. Araya did contribute roughly 1/3 of the lyrics on South of Heaven and Seasons, and on some later releases, but as far as lyrical content goes, King and Hanneman are responsible for most of it.

Pretty sure Araya is not a practicing Catholic. Raised Catholic, perhaps, but no Catholic would sing the things he sings about and not have a major moral dilemma, I don’t care who wrote them.

I’ve heard this before and never have seen anything to substantiate the claim.

I’m pretty sure Araya says he is Catholic & talks about the whole faith v. lyrics thing in the documentary “Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey”. But Google could probably help you find proof to substantiate that fact as well.

        • @ilikepie, George Carlin once said “According to history, God is one of the leading causes of death” in reference to the Crusades and Holy Wars. Just because someone is Christian, doesn’t mean it has to be pretty. There is a very dark side to religion, and anyone who has done even a mild amount of reading on the subject knows that.

K even though he doesnt write the lyrics, a true “catholic” wouldnt be preaching that shit. dont tell me that band is not satanist.

A true Catholic can preach whatever the hell they want because they can just go into the magic forgiveness booth and then get rapture’d up to heaven.

    • Parkway drive would be sweet….maybe get some more of the new wave of metal in there like a August Burns Red. Ready, Set, Fall is an up and coming band that would make a good addition. Also wouldn’t mind seeing Chimaira’s new line up either.

    • I don’t know about anyone else but I think this tour would be a great opportunity to give some bands who really haven’t had long, progressive summer tours that are guaranteed to sell lot of tickets some exposure. Bands like Skeletonwitch, Havok, Warbringer, Lock Up, Brutal Truth, Decapitated..hell I wouldn’t mind seeing Goatwhore or Amon Amarth on it either. I get that some of these repeat choices are guaranteed money because of their fans and that’s fine but I really think we should start seeing some new selections rather than just always going with Disturbed, Five Finger Death Punch, Trivium, Suicide Silence;etc.

I agree but, it’s thanks to Mayhem 2011, that I now know of Red Fang, king of sorrow, straight line stitch. They won’t make Amon Amarth headliners, they need to make their money and they need to keep it an Arena tour, and theres plenty of other mainstream metal acts other than Disturbed, Five Finger Death Punch, Trivium, Suicide Silence, they desperately need(I desperately want) System of a Down.

Slipknot and Slayer back-to-back would be fucking epic. I went to the first two Mayhems (skipped last year’s) and saw both these bands on separate years, but the two together would be the best-of from both years. Get Lacuna Coil on there and feel free to leave Motorhead off (not a popular opinion, sorry fellas) and all will be locked in for my part.

Yeah, with some Lamb of God, Shadows Fall, Gwar, Hatebreed, etc. mixed in. And if you happned to live near NJ, you got Metallica thrown in too. It’s a shame that festival didn’t pan out, it really set the precedent for what a heavy metal fest should look like.

        • I remember that. I was right up front for Slayer, thinking I’d continue to stick around there through the set break and keep my spot for Slipknot. Damned if I wasn’t chugging overpriced water and getting a rest in between their sets instead, having to snake my back up again for Slipknot. Good times.

I live in Chicago, Tattoo the Eath was held in a giant, inflateable golf dome. Ridiculously hot, like 20 people passed out because of no ventilation and they ran out of beverages half way through but I can forever get to say that I saw Slayer…in a golf ball.

I hope this is correct not much of an Anthrax but this line up is KILLER! I have doubts about TDWP tho they more of a Warped kind of band, but I wanna see them anyway, SLAYER!! \m/ add Arch Enemy and Napalm Death and I’ll buy my tickets immediately.

Part of the draw would be that they’re not a traditional choice, just as Warped ventures into metal (Whitechapel, Killswitch Engage, Suicide Silence, etc.) and other non-traditional WT artists (Kid Rock, Mike Posner, Machine Gun Kelly, Joan Jett, etc.) Bringing in a “non-Mayhem” band to attract a “non-Mayhem audience” is exactly what they should be doing.

    • the Motorhead comment was messaged to me when I asked the band about touring this summer

and Testament I really hope gets on(they did 2 shows last year and more than deserve to be on the full tour)

    • I dont know about you guys, and maybe it’s because im getting older and i feel like standing around for 7 and 8 bands gets a little tiresome on the feet and knees, but im sick of these giant tours featuring every goddamn band out there. Give me 2 great bands, maybe an up and coming 3rd to open the show and i’m much Happier. Whats would be your dream lineup?

Mine would probably be Down and Every Time I Die together, with maybe The Cancer Bats or Stray From The Path opening up. That list probably changes daily though, just what im feeling right now.

…… I really don’t see how that is relevant to this tour, to be honest. It’s a amphitheater line-up, which unfortunately ETID will never be able to headline or sadly even make it to the main-stage with a permanent slot (on REMF.)

If there’s 8 bands playing on the side stages and for whatever reason you want to see all of them (highly unlikely), that’s a little over 4 hours of standing. Then it moves to the main stage, where if you’re like me you’re going to buy a seat and not stand on the lawn like a schmuck – typically people don’t stand until the last 2-3 acts, and usually there are enough empty seats where you can move over to the side a bit if someone is blocking you and you want to sit.

My dream line-up would have tons of bands and be an all-day affair. It’d have:

Main: Metallica, Sabbath, Rage, NIN, Killswitch; House Band: Liquid Tension Experiment
Side: ETID, Parkway Drive, Glassjaw, alexisonfire, Architects, Oh, Sleeper, Maylene & The Sons of Disaster, He Is Legend

Basically more of an Ozzfest/Warped Tour mash-up.

        • Yeah i guess i really wasnt thinking about the venue size…i was more thinking of all the big package tours that come through our 1500 capacity bar, but ill take $4 Sams and $2 PBRs over the inflated ampitheater beer prices!

        • You mean you’re not in favor of $9 beers that have half of the contents spilled walking from the serving area to your spot?

its weird to see that prp and wolverine kills seem to have different bands. ( atleast for the main stage). either way im cool with slipknot being there. wouldnt mind having 2 of the big 4 and motorhead. its good to see some of the staples of metal.
