Devin Townsend‘s live counterpart to his “The Moth” rock opera has received its own standalone release today, October 06th. The Canadian prog rocker filmed a March 2025 live performance of that record that took place at De Oosterpoort in Gronigen, NET. In typical grandiose fashion for Townsend, that set saw him joined by the North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra. This performance was previously exclusive to a deluxe artbook edition of “The Moth” and has been dubbed, “The Moth (The War-Live in Groningen)“.

If you’re on the fence about checking it out, Townsend has newly shared another featured performance from it, with the below live video for “Covered By Causes” having just arrived. Townsend said of this concert overall:

“The live version of The Moth you are about to see is, in many ways, the definitive version. Although the template for the sonic composition itself was refined on the actual album, the sort of ‘desperate’ energy of this live performance, with its lack of adequate time to prepare, the emotional turmoil that surrounded my life at the time, and the resolve from myself and the others involved to ‘shoot for the moon,’ knowing full well that if it failed, it would fail completely, galvanized the intent of the concept to the point that I was very moved to see it.

I’m exceptionally proud of it, and of everyone involved.”
