Ohioan groove metal band Chimaira have announced a new deluxe box set of their penultimate studio album “The Age Of Hell“. That premium tier set celebrates the 15th anniversary edition of that 2011 outing and comes with a variety of bonuses. Among them, a replica laminate from the album’s touring cycle, a bullet USB featuring digital copies of the album, a 51-minute documentary, plus photos, wallpaper, and a bonus EP titled “The Lost Word“. The latter features 8 previously unreleased demos and is also included on purple vinyl in this new set. Other bonuses include a Year Of The Snake woven backpatch, a sigil slipmat and a chaos star foil sticker.
Pre-orders for that set and associated merch are available now via chimaira.com, with separate 2-LP pressings also available on limited edition vinyl variants. The album’s original special edition bonus tracks “Scum Of The Earth” and “Your Days Are Numbered” are also newly included here, marking their first time on vinyl. Furthermore, the album itself has also newly been remastered specifically for this release, which is expected out around November 30th.
Chimaira frontman Mark Hunter reflected on the album, which arrived after several members of the group’s core classic era lineup had already departed:
“By the time The Age of Hell came out, Chimaira was already coming apart. People argued for years over whether it was a return to form or even really a Chimaira record, and both sides had a point. We finished it anyway, pulling from everything we had been because none of us knew if there would be another one. I have never apologized for this album. It is exactly what it is: the sound of holding on. Fifteen years later, thank you to everyone who found something in it, defended it, hated it, or cared enough to keep arguing about it. This one is still for you.”
