Former Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert has been ordered to undergo a competency evaluation in regards to the charge of attempted first-degree manslaughter he currently faces. Ebert was arrested after a March 29th, 2026 altercation that took place with William Yates, the 79-year-old father of Turnstile vocalist Brendan Yates. Ebert stands accused of running over the elder Yates with his automobile following a heated verbal exchange, leaving William with a severely broken leg.
This police report noted surveillance footage of the incident exists and offered further detail on the incident, which was the latest in a line of heated exchanges said to have been initiated by Ebert with the Yates family. Ebert‘s 2022 ousting from Turnstile was notably contentious.
In April of this year, Ebert‘s charges of attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault were upgraded to attempted first-degree murder. This past April also saw Yates argue that he he acted in “self defense” in his dispute with William Yates.
A new report filed by The Baltimore Banner has word that Ebert will be undergoing a competency evaluation to determine if he is able to stand trial in the above-mentioned case. This decision follows a recent hearing, in which Ebert stated that, “every part of the police report is a lie”, and added “I did not commit a crime.”
The competency evaluation arises after Ebert‘s own attorney Mark Sobel has raised “significant concerns regarding competency” with his client. Ebert however argues that he is “perfectly competent” and is said to have put forth a conspiracy that his attorney was in league with prosecutors, while also alleging financial misdealings with his previous legal representation. A status hearing is next set for September 22nd.
