There’s some more developments in the fallout from Slipknot‘s apparent official confirmation of the firing of their turntablist Sid Wilson. By now you’re likely aware that TMZ first reported on July 31st that Wilson was permanently fired from the band. Soon after that news broke, his bandmate, guitarist Jim Root took to social media with a cryptic post cautioning fans not to “believe everything you read.” That post read:
“Don’t believe every thing you read. Stop. Think. Take a breath. Sit with it for awhile. Maybe. Just maybe even wait until there’s more information.”
Wilson for his part brushed off questions in person to the media about his status in the band, and earlier this week introduced himself as a member of the band. However, yesterday, August 14th, saw the masked metal band briefly confirm the news that Wilson was no longer a member. That statement read:
“Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson.
We wish him the best in his future endeavors.
Slipknot“
It would appear that there may have at least been some nuance to Root‘s initial statement, as the below new comment attributed to Root has been widely circulating among the band’s fan communities in the wake of yesterday’s brief announcement from the band:
“You couldn’t even believe what I wrote. At the time I wrote it… I didn’t know what to believe. I stand by it though. I still don’t think anyone should believe everything that they read. Time will tell. As it did for my post that didn’t age well.”
Similar confusion in the band’s camp came about from commentary made by Stacy Thomson, wife of the band’s guitarist Mick Thomson. In the immediate aftermath of TMZ‘s first report on the matter, Thomson posted the below quote the 80s teen comedy classic ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off‘:
“My best friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who’s going with a girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it’s pretty serious.”
She followed that up with a separate post:
“Questions about my reference?
Don’t believe everything you read on the internet, kids!
(And yes Ferris buellers day off is a great movie)”
Yesterday, soon after Slipknot‘s official confirmation went up, Stacy was called out online for her aforementioned statement. She directly replied: “oh stop it wasn’t true when TMZ posted it. And I assure you the guys ALL always give chances.”
As of press time, Wilson doesn’t appear to have publicly addressed the situation. However, apparent official word of his apparent termination follows pointed comments from his ex-fiancée Kelly Osbourne, which many have presumed to be targeted at Wilson. TMZ for their part went on to state earlier this month that Wilson‘s firing came about as a result of his treatment of his bandmates.
