Silent Planet became one of the rare few Western artists to stage a live performance in Ukraine over the weekend. The politically-inclined progressive metalcore band previously launched their track “Wick” back in July of 2025 with a campaign to benefit Ukrainian children impacted by the ongoing Russian invasion of the country.
Given the obvious security risks as war rages on in the country, the majority of international touring artists have opted not to tour Ukraine since Russia invaded the country back in 2022. Silent Planet however, booked a pair of Ukraine shows to close out their European/UK touring this month, stating at the time of their announcement that they sought to, “celebrate the spirit of resistance in the face of tyranny.”
The Californian band played their first set in the country yesterday, June 20th, taking to the stage at Atlas in country’s capital of Kyiv. Today, June 21st, they are set to end their European trek with additional stop at the !FESTrepublic in Lviv, Ukraine. Some fan-filmed footage from yesterday’s historic set can be found below, while the band themselves commented personally of the experience on their social media::
Tonight we played a show in Kyiv. It was a life-changing experience to play our songs, especially “Wick” among people who have lived through so much. After the show, I talked to as many folks as I could, and met a man named Михайло (Michael) who lost his leg in the war. His friends told me that he managed to get up from his wheelchair to catch some of the show (and ended up breaking his chair in the mosh pit lol).
Apparently we are the first American band to come here since Russia first invaded in Feb of 2022… but I promise you, this won’t be our last time visiting. Against all odds, these people continue to live and thrive in the face of war and despair – and we will never be the same after meeting them.
Whether sleep or sirens finds us tonight, know that this journey has grown our hearts and deepened our thoughts. This war will end and the Lovers will be victorious against the dread machine.
