Sharon Osbourne has now officially confirmed that the ‘Ozzfest‘ will be returning in 2027. Word of the resurrection of the once annual heavy metal festival follows her comments published earlier this year, in which she noted that she had been meeting with promoter Live Nation to bring the fest back.
Speaking with MIDEM in Cannes, France recently, Sharon confirmed the festival’s return is now a go, stating: “Yes, absolutely. Yeah, we’re gonna do it.” She continued:
“…The last one we did was 2018. It was just a month before Ozzy got sick, and that was at the Forum in L.A. And there was no plans to stop it. We were still gonna do it, but Ozzy couldn’t. And Ozzy and I would talk about it, and he’d say, ‘Do you think Ozzfest would work without me?’ And I’m, like, ‘Yeah, it’s a brand. It will work without you.’ And he said, ‘We should do it.'”
‘Ozzfest‘ originally launched back in 1996 by Sharon and her late husband, heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne. The idea to create the festival came about after Ozzy was snubbed by the ‘Lollapalooza‘ festival at the time. In the years that followed, the traveling metal and rock festival would go on to help launch countless heavy bands, including System Of A Down, Slipknot and more.
A report by Billboard earlier in the year indicated that unlike the destination festival edition of the ‘Ozzfest‘ last staged in 2018, this upcoming return is intended to be staged as a traveling festival.
