The Dillinger Escape Plan resurrected a Greg Puciato-era track during their December 14th set at The Regency Ballroom in San Francisco, CA. After hanging it up back in 2017, the mathcore outfit reunited in 2023 with original vocalist Dimitri Minakakis appearing back in the fold in place of Puciato.
The band’s ressurection since then has primarily focused on material originally recorded with Minakakis, in particular their 1999 debut album “Calculating Infinity“. Apparent differences of opinion appear to have kept Puciato out of that reunion thus far. Back in June of 2024, guitarist Ben Weinman revealed that he and Puciato hadn’t spoken to each other since ending the band in 2017.
This past weekend’s The Dillinger Escape Plan show saw the group’s 2007 “Ire Works” track “Milk Lizard” make it back into the set, albeit without Minakakis on vocalis. Instead thoughtcrimes vocalist Rick Pepa stepped in on the mic. thoughtcrimes and The Dillinger Escape Plan share a drummer in Billy Rymer.
This unexpected cameo followed another bizarre twist during The Dillinger Escape Plan‘s recently concluded West Coast tour. Their December 12th show at The Belasco in Los Angeles, CA found them bringing out ex-Every Time I Die vocalist Keith Buckley. If you’re not aware of the potential significance of that pairing, Puciato went on to join Better Lovers with Buckley‘s ex-bandmates in Every Time I Die. In 2022, 4/5th of Every Time I Die united against Buckley, who fronts Many Eyes these days, in a bitter split that ultimately led tothe formation of Better Lovers.
