Disturbed vocalist David Draiman has pushed back against reports that he was ‘booed off stage’ during his appearance at this past Saturday’s (July 05th) ‘Back To The Beginning‘ concert. Draiman took to the stage as part of a supergroup that consisted of veterans of Ozzy Osbourne‘s solo touring over the years, including guitarist Jake E. Lee, drummer Mike Bordin and keyboardist Adam Wakeman. Anthrax‘s Scott Ian Extreme‘s Nuno Bettencourt and ex-Megadeth bassist David Ellefson were also among those involved.
Draiman was met with boos and a few middle fingers while taking to the stage, per Birmingham Live, who were in attendance at the show. Draiman went on to front covers of Osbourne‘s “Shot In The Dark” and Sabbath‘s “Sweet Leaf” at the big event, which served as the final live sendoff for Black Sabbath and Osbourne.
Taking to X yesterday, July 06th, Draiman stated across a series of posts that footage that has been widely circulating of his chilled reception while walking onstage was altered with additional boos. Draiman pointed to this footage to prove his case.
Draiman himself has become a divisive figure in recent years, due to his pro-Israel stance amid the Israel and Gaza war. Many of his detractors cite his 2024 signing of an IDF artillery shell with an expletive aimed at Hamas as offensive, in light of the reported high casualty rate of civilians in Gaza amid the conflict.
Draiman himself stated yesterday of his reception and performance at ‘Back To Beginning‘:

As you can see…I wasn’t “booed off stage” as so many people in the press and CERTAINLY #FreePalestine crowd, would have you believe.”
