Paramore's Hayley Williams On Turnstile: "They Are My Fugazi"

Paramore vocalist Hayley Williams recently heaped high praise on Turnstile, labeling the melodic hardcore outfit her own Fugazi. Williams spent some time with the Baltimore, MD natives in Turnstile last week, attending the premiere of the band’s visual album film ‘TURNSTILE: NEVER ENOUGH‘, while also going on to join the band onstage.

None of this was too surprising, given that  Williams also guests on “SEEIN’ STARS” from Turnstile‘s newly released album, “NEVER ENOUGH“. Speaking via her Instagram story recently, Williams shared:

“cant remember the first time i heard turnstile but it was over a decade ago and i was in my early 20’s. i have loved every iteration of their band thus far. a genre is a label but community is *alive*. TS represent so much just by showing up exactly as they are. which is probably why all kinds of ppl can belong at their show. they are my fugazi but they’re also my friends.
thx for inspiration!!!!”

While Washington, DC post-hardcore band Fugazi remain revered for their music, their fiercely independent work ethic and DIY ideology are also just as notable. For the most part, their pragmatic nature found them almost militantly eschewing any form of corporate involvement.

Given Fugazi‘s well documented stance in that area, Williams‘ glowing compliment has unintentionally ruffled the feathers of scene purists. After all, Turnstile are signed to major label subsidiary Roadrunner Records, have worked with fast food chain Taco Bell, and as newly revealed, the band’s bassist/vocalist Franz Lyons is fronting a GUESS jeans campaign.
