Canadian sci-fi metal legends Voivod have a new video game in the works dubbed ‘Voivod: The Nuclear Warrior‘. This Kickstarter has newly been launched to get the retro 2D action-platform game off the ground, with the following press release offering insight into their plans for it:
‘A bold new chapter in the Voivodian universe is taking shape. The legendary sci-fi metal band Voivod is excited to share several major creative endeavors currently underway: the development of their first-ever official video game, the writing of a new concept album, a series of upcoming international live performances, and two in-depth projects celebrating the band’s history—a biography and a feature documentary.
In collaboration with indie developer Chaosmonger Studio, Voivod is bringing their dystopian mythology into the world of interactive media with the announcement of Voivod: The Nuclear Warrior.
This retro-inspired action-adventure game places players in the role of the Voivod—a post-apocalyptic warrior guided by his disembodied mind, Nothingface—as he battles through warped landscapes, biomechanical mutants, and fragments of his lost consciousness. The game will feature pixel-art visuals, fast-paced gameplay, and a narrative rooted deeply in the band’s concept albums, with creative input and participation from all current members.
The game’s soundtrack will be distinctly Voivodian, featuring reimagined tracks from the band’s current lineup, carefully rearranged to match the authentic sound of early ’90s 16-bit video games. The result is a fusion of metal and retro gaming energy, crafted to feel both nostalgic and true to Voivod’s sonic identity.
Today marks the launch of the game’s Kickstarter campaign, where fans can support the project and gain access to exclusive rewards. The Prototype Gameplay Trailer also premieres today, offering the first glimpse of the game in action. The title is scheduled for release in 2026, possibly alongside the band’s next studio album.
Voivod is currently in the studio crafting a new full-length album, which promises a return to their roots in conceptual storytelling, as a recent distorted signal was detected in the multiverse! This upcoming record continues the band’s legacy of weaving science fiction, social commentary, and experimental metal into an expansive sonic narrative.’
Outside of the game and concept album, Voivod have their biography ‘Always Moving – The Strange Multiverse of Voïvod‘ headed for a summer release. A documentary filmed dubbed “Voïvod: We Are Connected” is being put together by Felipe Belalcazar.
