Norma Jean took advantage of being in close proximity with a former member during today’s (October 06th) ‘Furnace Fest‘ in Birmingham, AL. Thanks to some favorable scheduling, ex-Norma Jean vocalist Josh Scogin was also playing the fest today with his noise rock duo ’68.
Given their veritable status as a musical Ship of Theseus, the roster of musicians who previously served time in Norma Jean runs deep. Scogin however remains a notable contributor, having been there from the group’s transition from Luti-Kriss to the inception of Norma Jean. His run fronting the band lasted from 1997 through to 2002, which is somewhat ironically a lengthy haul when it comes to the average years of service put in by the numerous musicians who have cycled through the roster of the Douglasville, GA-based metalcore outfit.
Scogin who previously fronted The Chariot before going on to ’68, rejoined the group onstage today for a performance of “Memphis Will Be Laid To Waste” — a song he originally helped write for Norma Jean‘s 2002 debut album, “Bless The Martyr And Kiss The Child“. As an added bonus former guitarists Scottie Henry and Chris Day also took part in the set.
