A Deftones/Sol Invicto fan by the name of Christopher Scott recently suffered a tragic loss this past Monday, May 27th, when his Calais, Maine home caught fire. While his family were thankfully able to escape the blaze, the lives of their two cats were claimed by the fire.
Sadly, the two felines had sought shelter under the house and were unable to be rescued in time. Adding to the loss, the house was a rental, and insurance won’t be available to help get the family back on their feet.
Sol Invicto‘s Richie Londres was made aware of the incident while confirming address details for a merch order for Scott. Upon learning of the unfortunate development, Londres took to organizing this GoFundMe, putting forth $200 towards the cause. Londres‘ Sol Invicto bandmate, Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter, also stepped up, contributing $1,250 to the campaign.
Londres said of the situation:
“We were just about to post some merchandise to a loyal fan and family man Christopher Scott when he informed us his home in Calais, Maine had burned to the ground only last night.
He was in town with his wife, his son was at home at the time and thankfully managed to get out quickly after hearing the smoke alarms and alert the authorities which stopped the spread to other properties.
Sadly they still ended up losing all their possessions and heartbreakingly 2 cats who ran and hid and were unable to be saved in time.
The property is a rental so no insurance will be due to them and unfortunately no contents insurance but lets be honest, how often do insurance companies help us in times like this, they always find a way out.
In light of this, we wanted to see if we can raise a small amount for them to help them out during this time and buy a few family essentials for their next home, we have dropped in a few hundred to kick things off and if you can spare these guys a few dollars it would be a lovely gesture.
Money will go towards things like rental deposit, food, replacing essential items and ensuring they are not struggling at this time.”
Speaking on why he chose to help out, Londres added, “I was gutted to hear about Christopher’s news, they never asked for help I just wanted to use our platform for good, losing animals, precious possessions and memories is awful for anyone to experience.”
Carpenter added, “I’d be devastated if I came home to that, especially being a cat owner myself, I hope this goes someway to helping them.”
Should you be able, you can help out the Scott family via GoFundMe.
