In addition to sharing some hot takes on social media recently, Jeris Johnson has just put out his new single “When The Darkness Comes“. Johnson initially gained some interest in the metal & rock scene with a viral rework of Papa Roach‘s nü-metal staple “Last Resort“. Since then Johnson has made some inroads into metal and rock festivals and the like.
Speaking earlier this week, Johnson apparently anticipated some backlash from his latest aural venture, offering:
when the darkness comes drops in 3 days and i can’t wait for the entire metal community to tell me it’s not a metal song

He more recently drew in some eyes with his opinion on not having a full-fledged band:
a “band” in 2023 makes no sense. solo & duo rock and metal artists are the future. 99% of your favorite bands are just 1 or 2 people writing & recording all of the music. the truth is most of them don’t have enough star power on their own so they hide behind the brand of a band.

Speaking via a press release, Johnson said of his current outlook:
“I’ve become obsessed with this idea of modernizing that super classic metal sound. That European metal festival shit with a dash of 808s to piss off the old heads. I want metal to be great. So I listened to the entire ‘Black‘ album (by Metallica) and thought, ‘What if I put my own spin on pretty much the best, most iconic shit there is?’ That’s what ‘When The Darkness Comes‘ is.”
