Those planning to attend Tool‘s fall North American tour may be treated to some older gems. Adam Jones, who plays guitar for the enigmatic progressive metal outfit, recently indicated that the acclaimed group may be re-introducing some earlier tracks into their setlist on the run.
He also noted that the band have also refreshed the visual elements for the trek, recently telling Pollstar:
“We’ve added to the show. We haven’t played all the markets and definitely want people to see what we’re doing. We might dig a couple oldies out and angle our set list a little bit, and the rhythm of it. And we got some new visuals, which are very cool.”
Those hoping for a setlist stacked with songs from the band’s more aggressive days should adjust their expectations accordingly though. The group’s 59-year-old vocalist Maynard James Keenan revealed earlier this year that his age has begun to catch up with him in that regard.
Speaking this past May in this interview with Steve-O, Keenan offered the following of his current capabilities in relation to the band’s older material:
“…I can do some of those songs. I can’t do a whole set of those songs. I can pepper them in, so I can still do some of those things, but you can’t… If you’re actually sitting down and thinking about it, you can’t expect some of those dudes, [from] back in the day, to do the thing they did… 30 years ago, 40 years ago. You can’t expect that out of that body. Your body doesn’t do those things forever.”
