Amon Amarth are putting the spotlight on their track “Heidrun“, having just digitally released a new EP of sorts centered around it and a music video to accompany it. The song itself is taken from the group’s latest full-length album, “The Great Heathen Army“.
Featured on this new four-song single are a newly remixed version of the title track, as well as a version of it featuring ‘vocals’ from actual goats. Also included on the EP are two live tracks: a performance of “Heidrun” at this year’s ‘Graspop Metal Meeting‘ and “Put Your Back Into The Oar” at this year’s ‘Hellfest Open Air‘.
Johan Hegg fronts the Swedish melodic death metallers and had the following to say of this latest release:
“Heidrun is an interesting mythological character, it’s a goat that stands on the roof of Valhalla eating the leaf of the big tree Lärad. The milk that she gives is the honey/mead that the warriors in Valhalla drink each night. The lyrics themselves are both about Vikings traveling the world but also metaphorically what it is to be a touring musician.”
