Sacramento alternative metal favorites Deftones had some setlist surprises in store for yesterday’s (November 05th) return of their annual ‘Dia de los Deftones‘ festival. This year’s fest took place at the Petco Park in San Diego, CA, with melodic hardcore favorites Turnstile, dream pop duo Phantogram and more also on the bill.
The show served as Deftones‘ first live performance since their European/UK run wrapped up this past July and featured the live debuts of “Goon Squad” from their 2012 album “Koi No Yokan“, as well as “Error” and “Ceremony” — both of which come from the band’s latest album, 2020’s “Ohms“.
Elsewhere, the celebrated group also rolled out the first live performance of “Rapture” from “Saturday Night Wrist” since 2009. Other songs dusted off included the “Diamond Eyes” cut “976-EVIL” (first time since 2010), the “Adrenaline” staple “Minus Blindfold” (first time since 2017) and a set closing performance of their internally divisive rap rock outing “Back To School (Mini Maggit)” (first time played since 2018.)
According to those in attendance, the band’s setlist ran as follows:
“My Own Summer (Shove It)”
“Rapture”
“Error”
“Minus Blindfold”
“976-EVIL”
“Rocket Skates”
“Needles And Pins”
“Goon Squad”
“Swerve City”
“Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away)”
“Lotion”
“Cherry Waves”
“RX Queen”
“Digital Bath”
“Ceremony”
“Genesis”
“Change (In The House Of Flies)”
“Back To School (Mini Maggit)”
As you can see in the fan-filmed footage available below, guitarist Stephen Carpenter returned to the fold, after having sat out their previous international touring.
