Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil played his first solo show since the COVID-19 pandemic this past weekend at the ‘Boone River Valley Festival‘ in Iowa this past weekend. Prior to the pandemic throwing a wrench in their plans, Mötley Crüe were booked to reunite at a big summer stadium tour in 2020 with Def Leppard, Poison and more.
Among the concerns leading up to the tour was the health and seemingly diminished musical abilities of Neil after a string of heavily criticized solo live performances. Speaking in regards to that in December of 2019, the band’s longtime manager revealed that several members of the band had been working with a nutritionist and personal trainers to get back into shape for the tour.
At one point, Kovac offered “Let’s see what Vince sings like and looks like when the tour goes out.” While that stadium tour has since been postponed to 2022 (new dates available here), Neil‘s first time back onstage since the pandemic was declared didn’t go according to plan.
14 songs into his solo performance at the aforementioned festival, Neil was forced to cut the set short, taking the time to tell the crowd that his voice was “gone”. He stated the following before leaving the stage:
“Hey, guys… I’m sorry, you guys. It’s been a long time playing. My fuckin’ voice is gone… We love you, and we’ll hopefully see you next time, man. Take care.”
