With the war between musician/filmmaker Matt Zane and the Static-X camp still raging in public as of late, Zane has been sharing the below video on his social media. Apparently leaked footage of Dope vocalist Edsel Dope is featured in it, with the aforementioned current Static-X frontman (Edsel manages and fronts the Static-X as ‘Xer0‘) seemingly offering commentary on late Static-X vocalist/guitarist Wayne Static and his departed wife Tera Wray.
Edsel appears to be seen discussing the addiction issues of the couple, and how their struggles inspired the “Project Regeneration Vol. 2” track, “Z0mbie“. In his post, Zane goes on to state his opinion that the Edsel Dope-directed animated music video for that very track intentionally mocked the struggles of Static & Wray.
Also featured in Zane‘s post is further leaked footage of Edsel seemingly discussing Wayne‘s addiction issues and commenting about how Edsel would end up with Wayne‘s job. While the clips are intermittent and presented without broader context, Zane goes on to imply that they display a less honorable intent behind the decision for Static-X to reunite with Edsel fronting the band. Edsel nor the Static-X camp appear to have publicly addressed this footage.
Zane previously had been a friend of Wayne and Tera and claims to have been asked to personally document what unintentionally became the last seven or so years of their lives. While Zane was also shown to be involved with the Static-X reunion, he had a public falling out with the band’s camp after his desire to produce that documentary on the final years of Static & Wray‘s lives was met with cease and desists from the estates of the late couple, as well as the band.
Zane has vowed to continue on with that doc, teasing various footage and releasing seemingly unauthorized versions of songs left behind by Wayne, which have been met with copyright strikes. Wayne died in November of 2014 due to a fatal mixture of prescription drugs and alcohol. Tera would take her own life in January of 2016.
Wayne Static ended his relationship with Static-X on infamously bitter terms, with bassist/vocalist Tony Campos offering his side of that split years after Wayne‘s passing.
