Industrial nü-metal outfit Static-X have been awarded their first gold single in the United States. “Push It“, the lead single off of their 1999 debut album “Wisconsin Death Trip” has just hit the requirements for that award, according to the RIAA. “Wisconsin Death Trip” itself went gold in January of 2000, and later hit platinum in June of 2001.
This new certification marks the first time a single from the self-described ‘evil disco’ band has brought home the gold. Static-X‘s last certification in the states came back in November of 2003, in the form of a gold certification for their sophomore album “Machine“.
Static-X originally came to an end in 2013, with frontman/guitarist Wayne Static dying a year later. The surviving members of the band’s classic era lineup would go on to resurrect the outfit in 2018, enlisting Dope vocalist Edsel Dope to front the group as Xer0 — a masked tribute of sorts to Wayne. Since then, various live celebrations have taken place around relevant anniversaries for “Wisconsin Death Trip“, in addition to a vinyl re-release.
Not so coincidentally, Dope have been a frequent tourmate of Static-X since Edsel‘s involvement, and seem to have benefitted from the association, having just landed their first-ever gold single in the U.S. earlier this week as well.
*A platinum album/single in the United States represents 1,000,000 units, while gold signifies 500,000 units. Outside of traditional physical/digital sales, the certifications factor in digital streams/downloads with 10 permanent track downloads counting as 1 unit and 1500 on-demand audio/video streams from a particular album also counting as as a unit. 150 streams of a song also equate to a track-equivalent unit.
