System Of A Down drummer John Dolmayan has once again stirred up controversy for his divisive beliefs. Dolmayan‘s right-wing oriented political opinions have been well-documented over the years, leading to both tension between himself and his bandmate Serj Tankian, and also leading to “hundreds of thousands of fans” unfollowing him, according to a post he made on social media back in 2023.
Despite the consequences of his expressing his controversial beliefs, Dolmayan has remained true to himself, even going so far as to expressing his support of Donald J. Trump last year, despite the backlash that he suffered for it. His latest round of controversy surrounds Academy Award-winning actress Charlize Theron (‘Monster‘, ‘Mad Max: Fury Road‘) and the gender identities of her children.
This weekend Dolmayan reshared a post from Instagram that alleged that Theron was quoted as saying, “What drives me is this: my children are all queer. My Eldest child is non-binary. My son is gay. My youngest child is fluid.”
Dolmayan commented on a screencap of that post his Instagram story, stating, “This woman should be in an asylum or jail. These children are being mentally abused, statistically impossible!”
Expectedly, Dolmayan‘s hot take has stirred up controversy on the band’s subreddit. However, Dolmayan may be obligated to issue an apology to Theron for his condemnation in the future. While Theron has two adopted children, one of whom identifies as transgender, and she has also advocated for trans rights, the above-mentioned quote in question was not made by her.
Instead it was made by fellow Academy Award-winning actress Marcia Gay Harden back in 2023. Per People, Harden stated:
“What drives me is — my children are all queer. My eldest child is non-binary. My son is gay. My youngest is fluid. And you know, they are my kids and they teach me every day.”
The original post with the quote misattributed to Theron that was subsequently commented on and shared by Dolmayan was first posted by David Harris Jr., host of ‘The Pulse’ on far-right news channel Newsmax2 yesterday, April 17th. You can find it on his Instagram.
