Per a new Instagram story shared by rhythm guitarist Andrew Virrueta, The Faceless have been in the studio recently demoing new material together. Of course, the technical death metal band’s mastermind, vocalist/guitarist Michael Keene, has also been involved in those sessions. The eventual arrival of what they’ve been cooking would put an end to a long period of creative silence from the controversial band, whose last new music came out in 2017.
While the group have managed to receive critical acclaim, much of their career momentum has been hampered by erratic behavior and persistent lineup volatility — much of which has been attributed to Keene‘s self-admitted struggles with drug addiction. Keene would later reveal in 2022 that he was also dealing with a neurological disorder at that involved temporary paralysis around 2020.
While The Faceless secured the services of vocalist James Dorton (Black Crown Initiate, Ne Obliviscaris, etc.) back in 2022, this latest post makes no mention of him. However, Dorton himself did share this new video on his own Instagram story yesterday, April 12th, seemingly indicating he remains involved.
This latest return to activity for The Faceless follows word from Keene back in 2024 that he had been working on new music from the band.
