British post-hardcore/screamo band Static Dress‘ new track “Nostalgia Kills” finds them joined by members of gold-certified metalcore outfit Underoath. A music video for this pairing, which finds Static Dress joined by Underoath vocalist Spencer Chamberlain and drummer/vocalist Aaron Gillespie, has just been launched below. Zak Pinchin (Split Chain, Love Is Noise) co-directed that clip alongside Static Dress‘ own vocalist Oli Appleyard. Appleyard himself said of this creative union:

“‘Nostalgia Kills‘ has allowed us to demonstrate the elevation of this band between all four members. It’s shown not only how much we’ve all grown as musicians individually, but together, to create something which is sonically stronger than we’ve ever been. Also, having the opportunity to have a band like Underoath on it feels like a stamp of approval from real legends of the post-hardcore genre.”

This song is headed for inclusion on Static Dress‘ forthcoming sophomore album “Injury Episode“, which the group will be issuing through Sumerian Records on May 29th. The band’s first interview about this album has also just emerged via Kerrang!.

In it, Appleyard expands upon how numerous one-take sessions populate this record, which they had Loathe‘s Erik Bickerstaffe produce. Appleyard also elaborated in that aforementioned interview on the evolution found on this record , which sports a conceptual arc centered around two characters thus far seen in this new video and the previous clip for “Human Props“. Appleyard stated:

“The thing that I really want people to understand with this record is there’s no cheap thrills, there’s no easy wins. I’ve compared the first record to being like a mini dirt bike. It’s fun, but you’re not going to drive it to work. I compare this one to a classic car, where some people look at it and just go, ‘Yeah, cool, it’s a car,’ but some people look at that and go, ‘That is the best thing ever.’”

Appleyard at one point in the chat lamented the current state of the music industry and the increased push for quantity over quality in the age of immediacy:

“People are making songs rather than creating music. The most fun part about music is performing. I feel like that’s completely missing from a lot of guitar music nowadays, because everyone’s like, ‘I’m just gonna write a hit for radio or TikTok.’ I feel like you can just fully tell – everyone’s song sounds the same, everyone goes to the same producers, so what comes out of it is the same, regurgitated ideas. I’m like, ‘This is so ass, because no-one has any individual ideas anymore.’”

Mid-July will see Static Dress head out across the U.S. opening for Motionless In White, Lorna Shore and Fit For A King on ‘The Sweat And Blood Tour‘.
