Guitarist/keyboardist Ross “The Boss” Friedman has passed away following a battle against ALS. The 72-year-old was a co-founding member of American power metal outfit Manowar and also helped found The Dictators, as well as his own Ross The Boss band. His ex-bandmates in Manowar acknowledged his passing in a statement issued today, March 27th:

“It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Ross “The Boss” Friedman, following his recently announced ALS diagnosis.
Music was Ross‘s life, and he left his mark across both heavy metal and punk rock.
Our condolences go out to his family, friends, and fans everywhere.
Rest in peace, Ross.”

A crowdfunding campaign for Friedman was launched via GoFundMe and per an update shared in March, Friedman remained hospitalized amid advancing symptoms of the neurodegenerative disease.
