Megadeth vocalist/guitarist Dave Mustaine has earned his black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the tender age of 64. His trainer at the Renzo Gracie school, Reginaldo Almeida, recently commented on Mustaine being bestowed with that honor below. While Mustaine has admitted to injuries and ailments catching up with him and playing a part in Megadeth‘s decision to retire, it seems they haven’t impacted his lifelong love of practicing martial arts too negatively. Mustaine has previously earned black belts in Taekwondo and Ukidokan karate.
Mustaine isn’t the only metal star to attain such an honor in their later years, as Tool, etc. vocalist Maynard James Keenan earned his own black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as well back in early 2024.
