Maynard James Keenan (Tool, A Perfect Circle, Etc.) Now Holds A Black Belt In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Maynard James Keenan, the musician/vintner, etc. known for fronting Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer, has been awarded a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. A long-time fan and student of martial arts and combat sports, Keenan‘s ascent through the ranking system has been in the works for sometime now, as he held a purple belt in the combat sport around the time of his 2015 hip replacement surgery.

Keenan, who will turn 60 this April, has since showed off the realization of his hard work with the below picture. While the enigmatic musician has posted pics and videos from his sparring sessions and teachings over the years, perhaps his most infamous display of his takedown skills came about during a past Tool concert all the way back in 1997. That concert saw Keenan forcibly restrain a fan who rushed the stage. He barley missed a beat, continuing to sing “Pushit” while holding said fan in what appears to have been a rear naked choke.
