Refused have turned to crowdfunding for an upcoming documentary titled ‘Exit To End‘. This month will once again find the Swedish post-hardcore outfit capping off their career, putting an end to their reunion that began back in 2014.

A global farewell tour has been leading them up to this point, with a trio of shows in their hometown of Umeå, Sweden set to usher them out. That final stop will be livestreamed on December 21st. While members of the highly influential band will continue to work together in Backengrillen and an upcoming new project, Refused as we once again knew it, will officially be fucking dead.

Exit To End‘ aims to map out Refused‘s three decades career in music, politics and more. The film has been in production throughout the group’s final touring this year, with a press release offering the following:

‘From a damp basement in Umeå’s Teg suburb to the world’s biggest stages, it tells the story of a band that refused to compromise, and of a movement that set out to reshape both music and society. Currently in production, the film follows Refused on their final world tour, moving between past and present to trace the band’s roots in the 1990s Umeå hardcore scene.

It also paints a wider portrait of a Sweden in transition, where recession, rising extremism, and youth rebellion helped spark a unique movement of hardcore, veganism, and antifascism. At its core, ‘Exit to End’ is a story of friendship and conflict, centred on the intense creative relationship between singer Dennis Lyxzén and drummer David Sandström.’

Anders Balsam Hellström (‘A Heart Is Always Red‘, etc.) is directing that documentary and had the following to say about it:

“‘Exit To End‘ is more than a music documentary. It’s a story about the cost of idealism, about friendship and reconciliation – and about a small town that became world-famous for something no one could have predicted.”

You can back the project over at Kickstarter, where a sneak peek at the film can also be seen. As of press time, $1,850 of the proposed $23,282 USD goal has been reached.
