While the newly Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame-inducted Soundgarden are putting the finishing touches on their final studio album featuring their late frontman, Chris Cornell, that album may yet not be the only posthumous release to feature the talents of the beloved grunge icon. Tom Morello, a fellow Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee with his outfit Rage Against The Machine, has once again confirmed that roughly an album’s worth of unreleased material from Audioslave still remains vaulted away.

That supergroup united 3/4th of Rage Against The Machine in Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk with Cornell. Together the quartet issued a trio of albums in the early 2000s, racking up multiple platinum and gold certifications in the United States alone.

Appearing on snsmix last month, Morello was asked about the status of those recordings. While he admitted that there has been no progress made on that front as of late, he does remain hopeful that one day that collection of songs will see the light of day. He stated [transcribed by theprp.com]:

“There’s probably like an album’s worth of great Audioslave songs that were not released. In part because — first let me explain — that when bands are deciding what songs go on their records and what don’t, it’s not always sensible. It’s not like here’s the 10 best jams. Sometimes it’s like, someone likes this one, someone’s not feeling that one. So, we had from each of the three Audioslave records, we had songs left over, some of which are really great.

And you know, I hate say this because it’s just every time it comes up in interviews, it’s a tease. It becomes a pull-quote that people hound me about. It’s not for lack of anything other than that just we don’t have it together. There’s no plan to not put it out. I would love for it to get in the world, and hopefully it will one day.”
