Cold Slither, the fictional metal band from the 80s animated series ‘G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero‘, have scheduled their first East Coast show. In partnership with Hasbro and Reigning Phoenix Music, a collective of tenured metal musicians recently united to not only play the first official show as that originally animated band, but also record and release a self-titled debut album.
The episode of that series that spawned the band aired back in 1985, and in honor of its 40th anniversary, became the subject of a celebratory line of action figures and more this year for Hasbro and the G.I. Joe franchise. Gus Ríos (Gruesome, ex-Malevolent Creation) was brought into to the heavy lifting of getting the band off the ground, with their live debut having taken place this past July in San Diego, CA around the annual ‘San Diego Comic-Con‘.
Ríos took on the lead role of vocalist/bassist Zartan at that show. Joining him onstage as the Dreadnoks were Ross Sewage (Exhumed, Ghoul, etc.) as Torch, Matt Harvey (Exhumed, Gruesome, etc.) as Ripper, and Andy Selway (KMFDM) as Buzzer.
Speaking under the guise of Zartan, Rios said of this forthcoming show, which will take place at Gramercy Theatre in New York, NY on October 11th:
“Well, well, it seems as though there are several potential recruits whom have a desire to join our small but elite society of Dreadnoks… This time in New York City! Our services are once again called upon by Cobra Commander and Reigning Phoenix Music to melt minds with Cold Slither! So be it, my Dreadnoks and I will see you all October 11th… Come prepared…Cobraaaaa!!”
The original ‘G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero‘ episode ‘Cold Slither‘ centered around the plot of fictional terrorist organization Cobra creating the band Cold Slither and utilizing subliminal messaging in their music to take over the youth of America.
