Australian hardcore band SPEED have just put out their ‘official movie’ for their new single “PEACE“. That song is part of the band’s forthcoming EP “ALL MY ANGELS“, which they have an October 23rd release date in mind for through Last Ride and Flatspot Records.
Thomas Elliott and the band themselves oversaw the direction of this new clip, which you can give a watch below. The above-mentioned three-track outing will also feature the songs “AIN’T MY GAME” and “ALL MY ANGELS“. A product listing had the following to say about what inspired the songs included here:
‘SPEED’s latest project, ALL MY ANGELS, is a three-track EP that reflects on the passing of three close friends [Aje Chang-Wook Yeo, Tahmid Nurullah and Alex Arthur] in recent years. Those events brought intense heartbreak to their community, but over time, they’ve magnified what SPEED have always held as their central ethos: To love unconditionally, without fear or regret.
In the years prior to ALL MY ANGELS, the band wrestled with their collective grief and life on the road. Moments of mourning took place on tour, in cramped vans driving through foreign countries; sandwiched between SPEED performances, on grandiose festival stages in front of 15,000 fans. While the band ticked off accolades and achievements – each more extraordinary than the last – the hurt lingered stubbornly.
On ALL MY ANGELS, that same collective grief has brought the five friends closer together; emboldening them to live life with greater clarity, and providing a more informed perspective on what’s really worth holding onto. Lyrics on the EP address the sobering realities of loss, and include musings on mortality – more vulnerable and raw than ever before. The title track ends with a direct statement of intent; ‘All my angels, I can’t give up.”
Vocalist Jem Siow added:
“Three of our close friends passed away in 18 months – but, amidst this devastation I was overcome with a deep sense of clarity and peace. Because, despite the abyss of questions of why and how, my clearest sense of calm lay in the certainty that the time we shared and invested in one another was underpinned by unfiltered honesty and unconditional love. Their lives were short, but I know our experiences together were lived with deep, meaningful intention, which has in turn empowered us with more meaning and purpose while we are still here. This sense of calm and focus exists like a sharpened, refined weapon at my disposal – poised to attack life and its many hurdles with precision and intention. And it has only been refined through the process of loss.”
