A promo recently cut by Irish WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch has resulted in some real-life heat. During an appearance on last night’s (August 25th) episode of WWE‘s ‘Raw‘ in Birmingham, UK, Lynch, as part of her heel character, went on to insult the city, disrespectfully invoking the name of the late great Ozzy Osbourne. Lynch told the audience during her time in the ring:
“I am not wrestling in Birmingham. Yeah, the only good thing that came out of here died a month ago. But in fairness to Ozzy Osbourne, he had the good sense to move to LA, a proper city. Because if I lived in Birmingham I’d die too.”
The line drew a response from Ozzy‘s daughter, Kelly Osbourne, who publicly went on to slam Lynch for her comment, stating on social media:
“@beckylynch.fan11 you are a disrespectful dirtbag! Birmingham would not piss on you if you were on fire. #birminghamforever shame on the @wwe for allowing such things to be said about my father and his home!!!”
Kelly appears to have mistakenly directed her ire towards a fan account rather than the actual Instagram account of Becky Lynch, though it appears her intent behind the message remains the same. Osbourne himself had long ties with WWE, and was a celebrity inductee into the organization’s Hall Of Fame back in 2021.
