Hatebreed guitarist Wayne Lozinak is currently recovering from a craniotomy (brain tumor surgery) that took place earlier this month. After experiencing troubling stroke-like symptoms while onstage during the band’s European touring this past June, a subsequent trip to the hospital provided him with the shocking diagnosis of having a benign brain tumor. In light of the gravity of the situation, the veteran metalcore musician has stepped down from the band for the time being to focus on his health, which included the recent surgery to remove the tumor.
That procedure has since taken place with Lozinak now on the road to recovery. Per an update shared by Lozinak in mid-July, he currently faces a recovery period of at least six weeks, though the length of convalescence varies by patient. Lozinak has vowed to return to the band when he is physically able. In his newly shared update yesterday, August 10th, Lozinak offered the following update on his health:
“Hello everyone! I’m finally home. Last week was rough! But I’m getting better every day. Gonna be a while before I get fully recovered, but it’s going good! I want to thank you all for all the messages. I didn’t have my phone in the hospital, so that’s why I didn’t respond. Just started to look over them today. I really appreciate it! Made me feel good!
I also want to thank @katnacario!!! She stayed with me in the room all week, and contacted people to let them know what was going on. She is the greatest! I love You!
My surgical team was great! Big thanks to @kims.living.life for getting me the best care, and checking on me every day!
Thanks again, for all the messages! Onward & upward!”
Despite the lineup shuffles they’ve been enduring as of late, his bandmates in Hatebreed have stuck to honoring their live commitments, moving their fill-in bassist Matt Bachand (Shadows Fall) over to guitar, with Carl Schwartz of First Blood being brought in on bass.
