Professionally-filmed live footage of System Of A Down‘s May 20th, 2002 live performance at the annual ‘Pinkpop‘ festival in Landgraaf, NET has newly been shared by the festival’s archives. While roughly 22 songs were played during that concert, only 14 are featured in this broadcast.
The set also didn’t entirely go according to plan, having been hamstrung early on by technical issues with Daron Malakian‘s guitar for a song or two. In light of those issues, Malakian opted to go crowdsurfing and partake in some breakdancing, before ultimately laying down for a bit of a nap on the stage as his tech worked to straighten out the issue. Upon revisiting the footage yesterday, August 07th, Malakian commented on social media:
“That time when my guitar rig stopped working and I decided to take a little nap on stage in front of thousands of people at the Pinkpop festival. While my tech was trying to fix the problem and the band kept playing through two songs without me, I closed my eyes and dreamt that my guitars would start working again. Sometimes all you can do is dream.”
