There’s been no shortage of turmoil among the fan community of gold-certified alternative rock/metalcore outfit Asking Alexandria this week. Comment sections and the band’s subreddit have been flush with negativity over the group’s performance at this past weekend’s ‘Vans Warped Tour‘ at the RFK Stadium Grounds in Washington, DC.
The chief complaint being lodged by fans of the band has been the lackluster performance (and apparent lack of interest) delivered by their vocalist/guitarist Danny Worsnop. Some fans have gone as far to liken his performance during that show to the infamously bad sets delivered by Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil over the years.
Exacerbating the matter, the ‘Vans Warped Tour‘ set was livestreamed, and has since gone on to reach a wider swath of the band’s fans. Among the most egregious of offenses cited was the heavy usage of vocal backing tracks in the set closing performance of “The Final Episode (Let’s Change the Channel)“. You can watch that, as well as the full set below. You can also glimpse at the comments via YouTube.
In light of the continued criticism directed toward the band for the set, bassist Sam Bettley issued an apology on his Instagram this week. While he didn’t specify the context of the apology publicly, Bettley is said to have since confirmed it was for the ‘Vans Warped Tour‘ set.
Worsnop doesn’t appear to have publicly commented on the situation, though he has been active on social media recently promoting his country rock solo output and shows. It remains unclear if the set was an off-day for Worsnop or worrying precedent for the future. Worsnop previously quit the band back in 2015 before eventually returning in 2016.
